The Tiliyar Mini Zoo, also commonly known as the Rohtak Zoo, is located in Rohtak, Haryana. It was built in the year 1987 and is currently a popular recreational destination among families. Several scattered zoos were shut down and the development was shifted to the Rohtak Zoo. It houses various animals and a few attractive birds for public showing. The Rohtak Zoo is known for maintaining a beautiful balance of biodiversity with its wide variety of flora and fauna. It is extremely well maintained and caters well to the visitors as well. Entry and Timings of Rohtak Zoo

The entry fee for adults is INR 10 and for children is INR 5. Fishing activities require a fee of INR 200.

How to reach Rohtak Zoo

The Tiliyar Mini Zoo is situated at a distance of 42 km from the Delhi border. Once you reach Rohtak, you can either catch a bus or hire a private taxi. Buses form the main public transport facility in the city. Alternatively, travellers can avail auto-rickshaws to reach the Rohtak Zoo.

History of Rohtak Zoo

There were several mini zoos that were scattered across the state of Haryana. The State Government emphasised on a single zoo’s development in the 17th Meeting of Haryana State Wildlife Advisory Board in 2001. They decided to shut down the numerous mini zoos and develop the Rohtak Zoo. Thus, the Rohtak Zoo was set up in the Tiliyar Lake Complex. The State Government has since, put in efforts to elevate the status of the zoo and transform it into a popular recreational destination. The initial area of 16 acres was extended to 44 acres. 28 acres of land was transferred from the Tiliyar Tourist Complex to the Forest Department in June of 2003. Enclosures for animals and aviaries for birds were subsequently built.

The list of animals being housed at the Rohtak Zoo includes tiger, fox, leopard, jackal, hippopotamus, hyena, wolf, otter, baboon, sambhar, chinkara, blackbuck, barking deer and many others.
