Home to some amazing views and historic carved Indian caves, the Cueva del Indio has fast become a huge tourist attraction.
The Cueva del Indio is an iconic Puerto Rican attraction. The caves have earned quite the reputation for themselves due to the huge amount of petroglyphs found in them, and also the panoramic and spectacular views that you can get from various cliffs in the area. Features like arches and a natural bridge are also not to be missed, and from these various vantage points you can witness the huge waves crash into the rocks, creating quite an absorbing view. The caves are not open at the top so you can look down into them, and there's also ladder for those who want to climb down and take a more on-hand tour of the labyrinth, which is definitely recommended. The walk to the caves is perhaps the most dangerous part as you have to walk across sharp limestone, so pack a pair of solid shoes and do not take the risk of open footwear. The caves used to be of huge importance to the Taino Indians. They held meetings and important functions here, and the carvings depict several features of their everyday lives. Spend a good few hours here in the caves and enjoy the rustic and historic feel!
