Umeda Sky Building (Kuchu Teien Observatory), Osaka Overview
Umeda Sky Building is a 173-meter, 40-story twin-tower skyscraper in Osaka's Kita-ku district, designed by architect Hiroshi Hara and completed in 1993. Its two towers connect at the top through glass bridges and escalators that cross an open atrium, leading to the rooftop Kuchu Teien (Floating Garden) Observatory. The open-air deck offers 360-degree views across the Umeda skyline, with Café Sky 40 and the Fence of Vows love-lock railing among its features. It sits within the Shin-Umeda City complex near Osaka Station.
Built by Takenaka Corporation and opened in March 1993, Umeda Sky Building consists of two 40-story towers rising to roughly 173 meters, joined at their uppermost floors by glass bridges and escalators spanning a wide atrium. The rooftop Kuchu Teien Observatory, also called the Floating Garden Observatory, spreads across the 39th and 40th floors plus an open-air rooftop ring, giving unobstructed 360-degree views over the Umeda business district and greater Osaka. Visitors ride glass-walled escalators up through the atrium to reach the deck, where Café Sky 40 and the Fence of Vows draw couples for photos. The observatory is open daily from 9:30 am to 10:30 pm, with rooftop access subject to weather.
