Bay Area, Osaka Overview
A waterfront cluster twenty minutes out on the Chuo subway line, led by the Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan and its 5,400-tonne whale shark tank. The Tempozan Ferris Wheel next door runs three hours later than the aquarium, so do the tanks first and the wheel after dark. Treat it as a half day. It is a different waterfront from Universal Studios, across the harbour.
Built on manmade islands to accomodate the city's growth, the bay area of Osaka is home to many wide, open views across the harbour. It is also home to the Osaka Aquarium, the Tempozan Ferris Wheel, Naniwa Food Theme Park, Nanko Bird Sanctuary, and Universal Studios (built on a separate island). The Osaka Aquarium has a beautiful collection of marine life from the Pacific Rim, the Tempozan Ferris Wheel offers a picturesque view of Osaka and the bay area, particularly at night, and the Naniwa Park is home to all kinds of Japanese food, set in an old Japanese-style neighbourhood.
