Togakushi Shrine, Nagano Overview
Five separate shrines spread over several kilometres of mountainside, not one building. Most visitors reach Chusha, take a photograph and leave, and miss the point: the 2 km approach from the Zuishinmon gate to Okusha runs between 400 year old cedars and is one of the great shrine walks in Japan. Allow half a day and start at the bottom. An hour by bus from Nagano station.
