Day Trip to Jigokudani Monkey Park, Nagano Overview
Wild Japanese macaques that come down a steep valley to sit in a hot spring pool, the only place in the world where monkeys bathe like this. They are genuinely wild, they are not always there, and the park publishes a daily forecast for exactly that reason. Admission 800 yen, no online booking at all, and the walk in is about 2 km on an unpaved path that ices over in winter. Nagano Dentetsu is not covered by the JR Pass.
