Marmaris Museum, Marmaris Overview

The Marmaris Castle is one of the most popular castles in Turkey and is located on Marmaris Front. It is Marmaris’ oldest landmark and is believed to be built in 1044 BC. It is now a famous archaeological monument and a popular tourist site. The castle is divided into seven major indoor sections, two of which form the museum.

There is an in-house museum which is the only museum in the city. The ethnography lounge displays 5000 years’ worth of imperial art and artefacts. It also exhibits fragments of work from the Ottoman era, including weapons used, copper kitchen pieces, rugs, carpets, weaving works, and handicrafts. Meanwhile, the archaeology area showcases mud pots, coins, glassware, and earthen findings from excavations of nearby popular sites like Burgaz and Knidos. One of the most memorable parts of the castle is its gardens and landscapes. The panoramic view of the sea, city, and harbour from its lookout towers adds to its prominence.
