Galibeedu Trek, Madikeri Overview

Best Time To Visit Galibeedu Trek

The best time to trek at Galibeedu is post monsoons. During monsoons, the rivers swell up making the trails extremely dangerous. Also, there is the risk of leech bites which may get very painful. Summers can get exceedingly hot and scaling these heights might lead to terrible sunburns.

1. Carry water and light snacks with you as there are no shops after Madikeri.
2. Remember to carry a torch light and basic first aid for precaution.

1. Stop at the streams on your way to appreciate the beautiful bountiful nature. Take a sip from the cool fresh water.
2. Click pictures of the Western Ghats and the dark deep shades of brown and green trees on your way up.
3. Visit the old Kali Mandir either on your way up or down.
4. Visit the Chandramukhi river and the beautiful hanging bridge on top of it.

Trekking Trail

Galibeedu offers moderate to difficult trekking trails laced with verdant meadows, coffee plantations, brimming streams and dense green vegetation. The trails are made in concrete and the first stretch is slightly narrow, dark and dense. The second stretch is like a clearing the woods and offers mesmerising panoramic vistas of the adjoining majestic Western Ghats. The third and the last stretch is a little steep but the excitement to reach the summit surpasses any feeling of exhaustion. Once you reach the top of the summit, you are bound to have that feeling of euphoria and are sure to gain an experience of a lifetime.

History of Galibeedu

The history of Galibeedu dates back to the time when the land was called Kodava and was ruled by Kodagu rulers Veera Rajendra and Linga Rajendra. This area served as the filter point to track the entry and exit of enemies into the kingdom. On the way up the trek, you can also spot an ancient Kali Temple. There is also an old house in ruins amidst the dense woods.
