Escaliers du Marché

Escaliers du Marché, Lausanne Overview

Connecting the Place de la Palud with the Lausanne Cathedral is the Escaliers du Marché staircase. It originates from the marketplace, Place de la Palud, which houses several cafes, boutiques and shops. The climb offers a charming view of the market on the east side of the stairway.

All the shops and cafes look tiny allowing a panoramic view, which keeps getting better as you climb up. The staircase is very steep. But, once you reach the destination, you won’t be disappointed. The Cathedral overlooks the whole city, which is an extraordinary site. From the inside too, is one of the beautiful gothic monuments in Europe. This wooden staircase dates back to the 13th century.
