Khao Laem National Park is located in the northwest Kanchanaburi province, along Highway 323, near Bangkok in Thailand. Spread over 1500 kilometers, it is a paradise for wildlife enthusiasts and was made to honor the 60th anniversary of King Bhumipol Adulyadej on December 5, 1987. The epitome of floral and faunal diversity, Khao Laem National Park is surrounded by deep fertile forests and sunken temples, and has a lot to offer. Khao Laem is also famous for its serene houseboat experiences.

Inside the National Park, tourists can trek through the hiking routes to explore the forest and other attractions and enjoy walking through the natural trails. Various other activities are offered on a pay-to-enjoy basis inside Khao Laem, like, rafting, canoeing, kayaking, etc. While exploring the national park, one can also go bird-watching and try to spot species endemic to the region and even go caving. Animals like tigers, elephants, gaurs, sambar deer, barking deer, and wild boars can be spotted here.

Khao Laem National Park is home to the huge reservoir- Khao Laem Lake, which covers the area from Sangkhlaburi district to the northern regions of the park. Khao Laem has beautiful camping spots and floating houseboats on the reservoir for an enchanting stay experience. It also has Thailand’s longest wooden teak bridge- Uttamanusorn, or ‘Mon bridge’ measuring 850 meters long.

Must Know Before You Travel to Khao Laem National Park

  • Entry Fees: The entrance fee to the park is 30THB per car, plus 200 THB for foreigners (40THB if you have a pink ID). Thai citizens have free entrance.
  • Guide: Forest rangers can be hired from the visitor center located across the road from Kroeng Krawia Waterfall. It is open from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
  • Accommodation: It is available at the main headquarters, Kroeng Kra Wia Waterfall, and Pom Pee ranger stations. These are basic bungalows with fans and hot water.
  • Camping: It is allowed at headquarters and Pom Pee ranger stations. Tent and camping gears are available for rent at the national park

On the first day, one can take a direct taxi from Suvarnabhumi airport to Khao Laem national park that will take approximately 5 hours to reach. Head to Pom Pee point and rest there, making your tent on the campground as you watch the sun set over the park. On the next day dive into the forests of the national park to explore the diverse range of flora and fauna. After that head to see the mesmerising waterfalls. On the third day, visit mon bridge and indulge into activities like kayaking, canoeing, rafting in the Khao Laem lake and end up taking some souvenirs from the Mon market. On the last day enjoy sight-seeing by visiting the Bodhgaya pagoda, the sunken temple, and other mystic shrines and then end the day by leaving for Suvarnabhumi again.
