De Bosset Bridge

De Bosset Bridge, Kefalonia Overview

The De Bosset Bridge is the world’s longest stone bridge built across the sea, located on the harbour of Argostoli, the capital of Kefalonia Island. The 700m long causeway stands between the Koutavos lagoon and the natural Argostoli harbour. Enjoy a stroll or cycling session across the bridge, even at night. Visitors can see a small four-sided tapering monument called the Kolona Obelisk or the column.

The bridge was constructed and named after a British officer, Phillip De Bosset, in 1812. The original bridge made out of wood was destroyed in an earthquake. Explore the charming Argostoli harbour across the bridge with its beautiful palm trees, cruise ships, and promenade area. Ride a pedal or electric boat and see the famous sea turtles from one of the fishing boats in the harbour. Fanari Beach and lighthouse are nearby. There are many stores, bars, and restaurants near the bridge.
