Aperlai Ancient City

Kas

Ancient City of Aperlai, Kas Overview

Aperlai is an ancient Lycian port city with massive city walls submerged in the Mediterranean waters. The ancient ruins are glorious to look at with some parts of the wall still visible. It is located at the beginning of a long and narrow bay on the Sıcak Peninsula between Kas and Kekova. Aperlai is popular among tourists for its boat tours on a yacht from either Kas or Üçağız. Unlike other places historical in Kas, in Aperlai swimming and snorkelling are allowed.

Inside the city walls are ruins of a Christian church, a chapel, and a cistern. There are also remains of two Roman baths and several stone coffins from the Roman era. Aperlai is not very commercialised and sees very few tourists as it is inaccessible by road. So, if you are looking for a beach day with less crowd and amidst historical ruins, you must explore Aperlai!
