Old Catholic Church History & Significance

Bokor Hill Station was the summer retreat location for the French officers during their colonization of Cambodia. The Old Church was built in 1920 along with other structures in the National Park. It was abandoned after the expansion ended for a brief period. Later on, the church was used as a shelter by the soldiers during the Khmer Rouge, which was left in ruins after the end of the Rouge period.

The abandoned brick church is in ruins now and has not been restored unlike the other buildings in the park. However, the interior of the church are surprisingly well-kept, including the wall-paintings. If you get behind the church and climb the hill further for a few minutes, you can see the beautiful views of the coast from the top.

Ticket details

There is no entry fee for the church, but if you arrive by a two-wheeler, the parking fees is 0.5 USD or 2000 KHR (Cambodian Riel) at the National Park.
