Nartiang holds the largest collection of monoliths in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills, upright stones some standing over 8 metres tall that once marked the Jaintia kings' summer capital. The site includes the ruined archway of the old Summer Palace, built in red brick, and gives a direct, tangible link to Jaintia history that few other places in Meghalaya offer. It works best as a stop for travellers interested in tribal history and megalithic culture rather than scenery alone.
