The headquarters of Jorhat district, this city is also known as the tea capital of India. It is located at a distance of about 305 Km from Guwahati and around 138 Km from Dibrugarh. 

The beautiful, commercial, cultural and artistic city of Jorhat is the second largest in Assam. Tea plantations are the main agricultural areas around the city which also takes the shape of a tourist attraction given its simple natural charm. There are as many as 135 tea gardens in Jorhat. Apart from the tea plantations, Jorhat is home to other heritage sites and other natural reserves - Thengal Bhawan, Raja Maidam, Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary and Dhekiakhowa Bornamghar are some of the major places of interest here. The Dhekiakhowa Bornamghar is the oldest and the most famous place of worship in Assam, which attracts a lot of tourists every year. The river island of Majuli, which is the world's largest river island is just 20 km away from this town and it can be accessed by ferries from Nimati Ghat.

Suggested Itinerary for Jorhat

Day 1- Reach Jorhat by morning. Check into your hotel and relax for a while. After this, you can start your day by visiting Raja Maidam park. It is located nearby from the main city. As per your choice, you can plan a picnic in this beautiful park. In the evening, you can head out to Burigosain Devalay temple.
Day 2- You can start your day by visiting Nimati Ghat early morning. There are ferry services to take you from Nimati Ghat to Majuli, the biggest river island. After lunch, head out to Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary. Since it is 30 km away from the city, it will take around 4 hours including the travel time. After this, if you have time, you can go to Jorhat Planetarium.
Day 3- You can visit Sukhapa Samannya Kshetra. Make sure to start early to avoid traffic. Then, you can head out to the famous Assamese temple, Dhekiakhowa Bor Namghar. In the evening, visit the first tea garden of Assam, Cinnamora Tea Estate. It is just 7 km from the city centre so travelling time will not be longer.
Day 4- If you are here for one more day, then you can visit Kaziranga National Park. It takes 2 hours to reach the reserve from Jorhat.
