Rere Falls , Gisborne Overview

The Rere falls on the Wharekopae river, a waterfall measuring just 5-metre height and about 20 metres or 66 feet wide. It is charming, and this waterfall has a picturesque surrounding of farmland. It is a large picnic spot and a small beautiful swimming hole nearby. It is trendy among visitors over the summers. One can walk behind the waters on slippery rocks but should do so with the utmost care as the wet rocks will be slippery.

The visitors can pack with themselves picnic lunch and in the picnic ground there, enjoy the food and spend a good time in the picturesque surroundings. They also can have a swim in the swimming hole.

While visiting the Rere Falls one must not miss the Rere Rockslide which is just about 2 km up the road.

How To Reach Rere Falls

The drive from Gisborne to Rere Falls takes about 45 minutes while from Napier it is a three hours drive. The roads are well-maintained and will not be a problem to travel on. Alongside the Wharekopae river, a new bicycle trail has also been constructed. One can take the cycling trail and visit the waterfall on way. There is a large parking area at the Rere Falls and toilets are also provided there. It is just 1-2 minutes walk from the parking area to the base of the waterfall.
