Situated next to Lake Victoria in Uganda, the city of Entebbe lies to the southwest of the country's capital city Kampala. The city holds political prominence in the country, with the official office and residence of the President of Uganda being located here.

The word entebbe comes from the Lugandan language and translates to seat or chair, which refers Entebbe being the seat of the colonial governor during the country's British protectorate years. The Entebbe International Airport was the scene of the famous hostage and rescue operation against the Palestine and German military in mid 1970. Today, Entebbe, with its growing population of around seventy thousand, continues to play an important part in Ugandan politics.
