Smart Museum of Art, Chicago Overview

The David and Alfred Smart Museum of Art located inside the campus of the University of Chicago was established in 1974, designed by architect Edward Larrabee Barnes. The museum is devoted to educating the people of Chicago especially in local public schools about art and artistic practice. It has over 15,000 objects, features collections of modern art paintings, scrolls paintings, contemporary art collection, and sculptures by famed artists from all around the world. Although the museum is funded by the University of Chicago, it is kept open to the public for free.
