Co To Island, Bai Tu Long Bay Overview

Located in Bai Tu Long Bay, Co To Island lies towards the northeast of Quang Ninh Province of Vietnam. It is part of the larger archipelago of the same name in the Gulf of Tonkin. Co To Island features one of the most serene white sand beaches around Ha Long. Turquoise blue waters, a tranquil ambience around the beach, lovely sunsets, breathtaking landscapes, mouthwatering seafood options and a number of interesting attractions make Co To Island a must-visit on your trip to Vietnam.

Although Co To Island is growing as a popular destination, its sandy beaches, rocky cliffs and meandering paths through forests are yet to be encroached by the rage of tourism. It is among the select locations in Vietnam that lend a sort of virginal and unexplored vibe to the island.

Co To Island Lighthouse

One of the best attractions at Co To Island to explore is the 19th-century lighthouse, from the top of which you can witness the most spectacular, 360° panoramic view of the entire island and the Bay stretching out till the horizon. Even reaching the lighthouse is an adventure in itself, trekking through dense forests and walking up 80-something spiral steps to the top at 16 metres height from the ground. It should help to know that the lighthouse’s beam is solar-powered and promotes sustainable energy at large.

Beaches at Co To Island

Co To Island has two distinct beaches. Hong Van beach in the east with its low waves because of Thanh Lan Island in front, is perfect for swimming and family gatherings with kids. The water is calm and the entire environment is extremely soothing for the mind. Van Chay Beach on the west is known for its peaceful boat trips and incredible sunsets. You can also pay a visit to the Small Co To Island, a kilometre away from the main one to enjoy an even quieter, mystical ambience by the blue sea.

How To Reach Co To Island

Co To Island can be reached by taking a private car or bus to Van Don and then a ferry or speedboat from the Cai Rong Pier. The slower boats take 3 hours and leaves everyday at 7 AM, while the speedboats take 1.5 hours and depart around 1 PM everyday.
