Thatbyinnyu Temple, Bagan Overview

Thatbyinnyu Temple is a 12th-century Buddhist temple located in the old city of Bagan in Myanmar. It is the tallest of all the pagodas in Bagan, consisting of over 21 storeys. Situated next to Ananda temple, it is one of the most famous tourist attractions in the town.

Thatbyinnyu was built during the reign of King Alaungsithu. It follows the Burmese style of architecture but is unique when it comes to the structure of the tower, which is stepped and is built on a square-shaped base. The temple has two primary storeys. Unlike in other temples in Bagan, the seated Buddha image in Thatbyinnyu temple is located on the second storey.
