Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the Badrinath Temple near River Alaknanda attracts thousands of devotees during the sacred Char Dham Yatra between April and October. If you find the journey to be too arduous on foot, you can avail of the helicopter service from Dehradun, though it is slightly expensive. The temple and the medicinal Tapt Kund within are said to rid you of your sins and miseries.
Some sacred sites to visit in Badrinath include Charan Paduka (a rock believed to be Lord Vishnu’s footprints from when he first walked the earth), Brahma Kapal (where Lord Brahma is said to reside), Pandukeshwar (where the Pandavas’ father worshipped Lord Shiva) and the naturally formed Ganesh Gufa. Narad Kund is yet another holy hot water spring where people take a dip before visiting Badrinath Temple.
The Vasudhara Falls and the Saraswati River are always part of Badrinath packages, given their religious significance. The Vasudhara Falls is believed to be the resting place of the Pandavas, while the Saraswati River has been mentioned in the Vedas. When planning a trip to Badrinath, do not skip scenic spots like Neelkanth, a massive snow-clad mountain in the Garhwal region, magnificent Alka Puri Glacier and Satopanth Lake.
