Hard to beat the location, and sense of history. But the attention to detail is lacking in places
Iconic building. Staff are friendly and attentive without being submissive. Rooms are fine, if a little small and the view isn't great - unless you are at the front of the building.
The residents bar (after 11 ) option is not great. Feels like a bit of a barn / conference space. And the service was poor. I'd expect more from such an iconic hotel. If that's all they can provide it might be better not bothering at all.
Breakfast ( room service ) was very average.

overpriced and not living up to a 5 star service
lovely location
having to queue and be waitkisted for breakfast was very poor. waiter then not clearing used plates whilst going for additional food at breakfast even though he had added more coffee so he would have seen the plates

The fine dining restaurant was probably the worst service Iv had, it was fractionally better than a toby carvery. The food was good, service far from that . The rest of the hotel is fabulous.

Beautifully decorated for Christmas, good Breakfast excellent choice. Housekeeping staff very efficent great location. Lovely big room and very quite
Reception check in a bit slow waiting awhile for our room, but i understand its a very busy time could be a bit more friendly if im being over critial. Breakfast the first morning was slow and when i asked for butter was told by the waiter they had none left i repeated the request incase he didnt understand me but was told no we dont have any , i left it a few mins and asked a different staff member and got it promptly. Never got fresh toast when asked for it, waited a good 15mins to get my coffee few minor things and on the second morning service was very good . All small things but need more attention to detail for a good 5 star hotel. But had a lovely stay over all.
