Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Shimla to Sangla / Chitkul

Pickup available from Shimla Bus Stand or your hotel. The scenic drive passes through Kufri and Narkanda, descending into the Sutlej Valley via the famous Indo-Tibet Highway. En route, witness hydroelectric projects like the one at Karcham, where the Baspa and Sutlej rivers meet. From there, cross into the Baspa Valley heading towards Sangla or Chitkul for the overnight stay.

After breakfast, visit Chitkul—the last inhabited village before the Indo-Tibetan border. Surrounded by pine forests, riverbeds, and boulders, this charming village sits on the banks of the Baspa River. Explore local sites like the quaint Mata Mandir and nearby army installations at the ITBP camp. Later, drive back via Karcham Dam and head towards Recong Peo, the district headquarters of Kinnaur. A short climb above brings you to Kalpa, a peaceful village famous for its breathtaking views of the Kinner Kailash range—considered sacred and believed to be the winter abode of Lord Shiva. Spend the night in Kalpa, taking in the snow-clad Himalayan vistas.

After breakfast and check-out, we drive toward Tabo with several stops en route. First is Khab, where the Satluj and Spiti rivers meet. Next is Nako, a serene village where you can enjoy lunch by the beautiful Nako Lake and explore its monastery. We then visit Gue village, home to a 530-year-old naturally preserved mummy of a monk housed in a monastery. In the evening, we reach Tabo and check into the hotel.

After breakfast, we proceed to Kaza via the village of Dhankhar. A short yet rewarding hike to Dhankhar Lake (approx. 2 hours round trip) is an optional activity here. Arriving in Kaza by afternoon, the rest of the day is free for exploring the riverside, local market, or relaxing at one of the cozy cafes in town.

Today is dedicated to exploring the high-altitude villages surrounding Kaza. We begin with Langza, known for its gigantic Buddha statue and fossil fields. Next is Komic, the highest motorable village in the world, followed by Hikkim, home to the highest post office in the world. In the evening, return to Kaza for an overnight stay.

After breakfast, check out and drive to Chandratal Lake. En route, we visit Kyee Monastery, one of the largest in Spiti, and the wildlife-rich Kibber village. We then cross Chicham Bridge, Asia’s highest bridge, and pass through Lossar village and the Kunzum La Pass (4,551 meters). Finally, we reach the stunning crescent-shaped Chandratal Lake for the night.

After breakfast, we leave Chandratal and drive through Batal, Chhatru, Koksar, and Sissu. Stop at various scenic points along the way for refreshments and photo breaks. Drive through the 8.5 km Atal Tunnel before reaching Solang Valley, known for its adventure sports. Finally, we arrive in Manali, where you'll be dropped off at your hotel or the Volvo bus stand.

Himachal ≅ Peace ≅ Kinner Kailash Tours Travels India Pvt. Ltd. When you thin (Read More)k of Himachal Pradesh, images of snow-capped mountains, lush valleys, winding roads, and rivers flowing through picturesque landscapes instantly come to mind. However, to truly experience its magic, you need a reliable tour agency and a knowledgeable local guide who can provide authentic insights into the region. Mr. Vijay Negi, through Kinner Kailash Tour and Travels India Pvt. Ltd., along with our rider and guide, Mr. Shubham Thakur, are the ones who truly made this experience unforgettable. Our trip was Delhi - Shimla - Narkanda - Sarahan - Sangla - Chitkul - Sarahan - Delhi. As a traveler, it's important to be clear about your objectives and requirements. Once you have that in mind, Mr. Vijay Ji will take care of everything throughout your trip. From the very beginning, he assisted us in planning our itinerary (especially with our time constraints), coordinated with various stakeholders, and managed all the logistics at different stages of our journey. He is truly a gem of a person—humble, kind, and dedicated to making your experience seamless. Our stays at the different hotels were well-organized and hassle-free. We simply walked into our accommodations in the evening and relaxed. Each property offered both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food options, along with well-managed services like morning and evening snacks, tea/coffee, hot water, and bonfires. Given the environmental constraints and working habits of localities, please ensure that any specific requests—such as a bonfire or food preferences—are communicated to Mr. Vijay Ji earlier in the day. Last-minute requests are difficult to accommodate, especially in remote locations. As travelers, we also have certain responsibilities, such as clearly communicating our needs, understanding the changing environment, and adapting accordingly. The comfort of city life can’t be replicated in the mountains for obvious reasons. However, by using our common sense and emotions, it’s certain that a trip to Kinner Kailash will make your time in Himachal truly memorable for a lifetime. Mr. Shubham Thakur not only guided us to various places but also helped us understand their significance, local customs, modern practices, and the behaviors of both locals and tourists. He also shared insights into the local economy. Additionally, he encouraged us to try the local food and sweet dishes, which were absolutely delicious. He introduced us to exciting activities such as zip-lining, snow walks, snow slides, and short treks. When we made last-minute changes to our plan, Shubham Ji was more than happy to accommodate them. What an absolutely breathtaking and mesmerizing experience it turned out to be! Of course, like any experience, there are areas where improvements can be made. These include refining the preparation of sweet dishes, ensuring an adequate supply of hot water, maintaining in-room temperatures to prevent freezing floors, and providing extra water jars in the rooms. Special Thanks : Sanju, The maggi person at Narkanda, Gattu, Caretaker at Sangla property & the cute kid with running nose at Sangla. To conclude, I’d like to share two lines that reflect what we discovered and understood with Mr. Shubham Ji: 1) Aashiq bante hai Ishq se, Driver bante hai Risk se....!! 2) Haste Raho, Swast Raho, Masst Raho....!!
