New Mexico, USA

Surrounded by mountains and defined by plains and beautiful deserts, lies the state of New Mexico. Most of the state is protected as areas designated as State Parks and as a result, New Mexico has several things to enjoy amongst its unique topography. New Mexico has one of the largest continuous Native American presences of the United States, making it a culturally important site.

Apart from the preservation of Native American culture, New Mexico is also strongly connected to Hispanic influences, making the state a diverse settlement with several different cultures and traditions to enjoy. Arguably New Mexico's most famous natural attraction is the Carlsbad Caverns National Park which contains about 120 caves in a system carved out of limestone. The park also hosts a Bat Flight programme for tourists.

To witness some of the most stunning views in the country, you can visit the White Sands National Monument, a gleaming white sand desert in New Mexico. Another unmissable destination in New Mexico is the Taos Ski Valley, a Bavarian resort that draws in visitors from across the world for its ideal ski trails, hot springs and more. New Mexico is unique for its natural wonders that also serve as historical sites.

The Bandelier National Monument is one of these sites, home to unique volcanic formations as well as vast archaeological ruins. A similar experience can be found in the Petroglyph National Monument, where visitors can observe cave paintings left behind by Spanish settlers centuries ago. New Mexico is home to the oldest continuously inhabited dwellings- Taos Pueblo is a small town that is home to mud and straw structures that have stood for a 1000 years.

New Mexico is famous for the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta among other things. This famous fiesta draws enormous crowds for its colourful and unique display of hot air balloons. Among its numerous state parks and historic monuments, New Mexico also includes the city of Roswell- famous for being the location of the first UFO sighting, currently hailed as the 'UFO capital', featuring a variety of UFO-themed items.

There is a lot to enjoy in New Mexico, from its natural terrain to historic significance. Tourists visit this brilliant state for its cuisine, scenic beauty and unforgettable experience. Its winding landscape, colourful displays and consequential attractions are a tourist's haven.
