Louisiana, USA

Named after Frances King Louis the XIV, Louisiana is the state of the Mardi Gras. The unique personality of Louisiana can be owed to the bayous, lush vegetation and rich history of the area. The Capitol building, various plantations, museums and churches provide for an insight into the complex history of the southern states.

The event of most prominence in the state is the Mardi Gras, an annual celebration that draws large crowds to see thousands of floats on dozens of routes. The event even has its own museum called the Mardi Gras Museum. Another place of significance is the French Quarter in New Orleans oldest neighbourhood. With the stunning architecture and unique iron balconies, sightseeing, shopping, dining, and entertainment, are only a few of the things that one can do in the quarter.

Among the many plantations that previously stood in Louisiana, the Melrose Plantation is one of the best-preserved ones that was built in the 1790s. The Laura Plantation is another plantation that was a sugarcane plantation for over 180 years. This plantation is separated from the rest due to its large exhibit dedicated to the lives of those who were enslaved on the farm. The capital of the state, Baton Rouge, offers to tourists an opportunity to climb aboard a decommissioned destroyer at the USS Kidd and Veterans Memorial, a WWII ship. Louisiana also has a WWII museum, located in New Orleans.

"Road to Berlin," is an exhibit in the museum that immerses the visitors in fully recreated battles with visuals and audio. Music is the soul of New Orleans and Jazz is what it breathes. The Preservation Hall, an old building, has long been an institution in New Orleans known for jazz music. Local Jazz artists are featured in this intimate and legendary building. The birthplace of Jazz and home to twelve important plantations, Louisiana is brimming with its history, architecture and vast wildlife and vegetation. Its culturally diverse heritage is something worth witnessing.
