The Swiss National Museum is one of the oldest and most famous historical museums in Switzerland showcasing Swiss history in six permanent exhibitions and a few temporary ones. It houses collections on Swiss culture and a study centre. Located near the Zurich HB, right at the center of the city, the museum was built by Gustav Gull in the form of a Chateau, or a manor house from the French Renaissance period.
The museum showcases the development of social life and everything related in Zurich and indeed the country, from over a thousand years ago. Gothic art, wooden sculptures, coins, furnishings, and even an Armoury Tower, showcasing a model of the Battle of Murten are included in the vast collection of the museum. Exhibitions are held from time to time on issues currently prevailing in the society as well.
