Burano, Venice Overview

Burano is an island in the Venetian Lagoon, at a distance of 7 km from Venice. It is well-known for its vividly coloured houses and world-class lacework. The beautiful hues of the houses mirrored by the crystal waters make this a remarkably photogenic place.

The different colours of houses that seem randomly distributed follow a specific system. A request must be sent to the government if someone feels like repainting their house; only a certain number of colours are allowed for each area. Amidst this rainbow, palette stands the leaning bell tower of the San Martino church. You will find the lace museum a little ahead of the San Martino church. The museum will take you through the art of lace-making and how it spread across Europe. Burano is also famous for its fish dishes. The island is a 45-minute trip from St. Mark’s Square by Vaporetto, a water bus.
