Day Trip to Kamikochi, Takayama Overview
A river valley at 1,500 metres in the Northern Alps, with the Azusa running clear over gravel and the Hotaka peaks rising straight out of it behind Kappa Bridge. Two things decide whether this works: it is open only from roughly mid April to mid November, and private vehicles have been banned beyond the Kama Tunnel since 1994, permanently and year round. Park at Hirayu and take the shuttle.
