National Museum of History

Founded in 1955 and reopened in 2024 after a major renovation, the museum houses important collections of Chinese antiquities, from Neolithic pieces to later ceramics and bronzes.

The National Museum of History was the first public museum founded by the government after it relocated to Taiwan in 1949. The building was constructed in the Chinese palatial style, and it reopened in February 2024 after a renovation lasting more than five years. It is the location of many international exhibitions throughout the year. The museum's collection includes pottery, bronzes and statuary, much of it originating in the Henan Museum holdings brought to Taiwan in 1949 and in artefacts returned by Japan after the war. These collections span the Neolithic period to the modern era, making it a truly educational experience.
