SUR Corniche, Sur Overview

Located at the oldest part of Sur, is the gorgeous Sur Corniche, making up the oceanfront walkway that is one of the most popular places in the city. Spread across four miles, Sur Corniche offers a spectacular view of the wooden dhows, or boats, that occupy the harbour nearby. From here, you may also spot the ancient watchtower situated across the bay in the rural settlements of Al Ayjah. The inlet side of the Sur Corniche gives a great view of the skyline dominated by beautiful mosques.

What to Do In and Around Sur Corniche

The Sur Maritime Museum and the Dhow Factory are some of the splendid places to visit around the Sur Corniche.
The ideal time to take a stroll along the cornice is right when the sun begins to dip behind the horizon, and the town and the sea are painted an enchanting vermilion.
As the day darkens, the residents bring in chairs and mattresses to sit and enjoy the view, while some set up small barbeque grills to have a little picnic.

How To Reach Sur Corniche

From Oman, Sur Corniche lies at an approximate distance of six hundred kilometres, and it takes about seven hours by car to reach there if you follow route 17. Other courses, such as 23 and 31 also link these two places.
With two hundred kilometres between Muscat and Sur Corniche, it takes about two hours to reach the latter by car.
