Gomateshwara Statue, Shravanabelagola Overview

The world's highest monolithic statue, at a height of 17m, the Gommatesvara statue was built in the 10th century by Chamundaraya, the general of the King Rajamalla of the Ganga dynasty. Shravanabelagola Temple, also known as Gomateshwara Temple or Bahubali Temple is the statue of Lord Bahubali.

Inscriptions at the base of the statue are written in Tamil and Kannada. The Mahamastakabhisheka is a festival celebrated once in 12 years, where the statue is bathed in milk, saffron, ghee and curd among other things.
