Tower of Gold, Seville Overview

The Tower of Gold, a famous landmark in Seville, Spain. The tower is located on the banks of the Guadalquivir River. Its distinctive and iconic shape makes it one of Seville’s most well-known monuments, second only to Giralda, which was erected only a few years before.

It has been reflecting its glistening image onto the river since the thirteenth century. One of the final structures to be built in Muslim Isbiliya was a defensive watchtower constructed in 1220 on the orders of Seville's Almohad governor Abù l-Ulà. The tower houses a naval museum that opened in 1944 and showcased the city's maritime heritage. It is spread across several floors and contains flags, maps, scale models of ships, diving gear, and other nautical artefacts, as well as portraits of notable naval figures and records of foreign discoveries.

The Torre del Oro is a popular tourist attraction in Seville, and its unique shape and color make it an easily recognizable landmark. It is a testament to the city's rich history and a reminder of its importance as a center for trade and commerce.
