Santa Cruz, Seville Overview

Santa Cruz is a lovely and historically significant neighbourhood in the centre of Seville, Spain. With its brilliant buildings, excellent tapas bars, and wrought-iron balconies, this colourful area of town is full of history and intrigue, making for a stunning and attractive environment.

Santa Cruz is home to some of Seville's most prominent structures, including the Alcázar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Europe's oldest royal palaces. The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the See, located in the centre of Santa Cruz, is the world's third-largest church. Other noticeable sights in Santa Cruz include the Plaza de Espana, a spectacular plaza erected for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition, and the Hospital de los Venerables, a 17th-century hospital that today houses the Velázquez Centre.

Santa Cruz is Andalusia's best neighborhood for aimless strolling in addition to its architectural and historical value. The streets there are so absurdly little that they resemble the boulevards of Paris more than Triana, Seville's former gipsy district. One of the best ways to fill a long morning or afternoon in the Andalusian capital is by exploring its hidden squares and stumbling across its magnificent medieval palaces and churches.
