San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco Overview

San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) is a modern art museum situated at a short distance from Union Square. A seven storeyed building, it showcases temporary paintings of artists like David Park, Rene Magritte, Diego Rivera, etc. The permanent works here include art pieces by Doris and Donald Fisher, founders of the clothing line GAP. The museum unveiled its expansion and newly designed structure by Snohetta in May 2016.

The museum has great city views from the top gallery and an outdoor sculpture garden that is an absolute delight to visit. The marvelous exhibition of Dawoud Bey with some landscapes and large-scale polaroids is a must-see for all aspiring photographers. There is plenty to see and do even if visiting with kids. The museum gift store on the ground floor has a large variety of books, accessories, decor pieces, etc.

The coffee shop Cafe 5 is a relaxing place to get some food after a few hours of viewing some spectacular paintings. SFMOMA is also known for inviting local artists and painting murals as an initiative to support these artists and voice the high-spirited Bay Area culture.
