Pawapuri, Rajgir Overview
A holy pilgrimage for Jains, Pawapuri is an important destination located in the Nalanda district. Its history dates more than 2600 years and is famous for being the burial site for Lord Mahavira.
A few temples have been built here dedicated to Jainism and there is a lake where Mahavira was cremated. Jal Mandir, located amidst a pond is the most famous temple here and is a remarkable architectural beauty. This temple also features footprints of Lord Mahavira. Samosharan is a temple situated nearby, where Mahavira had given his last teachings. Buses and taxis are easily available from Nalanda and Rajgir to this place.
