Phadeng Peak, Nong Khiaw Overview

Phadeng is a limestone mountain located close to the city of Nong Khiaw in northern Laos. Its peak has several viewpoints, which offer excellent panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, the rice fields and Laotian countryside along the Nam Ou river. Phadeng Peak is one of the top attractions for tourists visiting Nong Khiaw.

It is best visited during the sunrise or sunset for spectacular views. It takes about 1 to 1.5 hours to reach the top. If you are climbing during the evening, bring a torch light as the way down is difficult to descend in the dark.

Best time to visit

The best time to visit Phadeng Peak is from October to March. The weather is excellent as the monsoons would be over. The landscapes are green, and the views from the top would be fantastic.

Tips

Compared to other small towns in Laos, Nong Khiaw has decent accommodation options, but anyway, it is recommended to book in advance if you want to secure the best ones.

There is only one ATM in the town, and most transactions require cash. Make sure to carry enough money at disposal, including trek charges.
