Tynemouth Priory

In North Tyneside, perched on rocky headland, is a historic ruin called Tynemouth Priory. It features the ruins of the priory church and other buildings and gives breathtaking views of the North Sea and the river Tyne. The Priory is famous for being the burial place of Saint Oswin.

The chapter house and crypt of the priory, as well as the adjoining artillery battery and barracks, are among the remnants that visitors can examine. It was once a significant monastic complex and now stands as a magnificent ruin that attracts thousands of visitors every year. The site is steeped in history and is believed to have been inhabited since the Iron Age. During the medieval period, it was an important center for trade and commerce. The ruins are strikingly beautiful, with the remains of the 13th-century chapel and the stunning gatehouse being the most prominent features. The Priory hosts various events throughout the year, including music concerts, art exhibitions, and heritage tours, providing visitors with a unique  experience.
