Day Trip to Yoshino, Nara Overview
A sacred mountain of Shugendo ascetics an hour and a half south, planted with around 30,000 cherry trees in four groves that rise up the slope and open in sequence over about three weeks. It is the most famous hanami site in Japan and it is worth structuring a trip around, but only in season: the window is roughly early to late April, and outside it the mountain is a quiet temple town.
