On one side, the gentle waves of the mesmerizing Arabian Sea crash at the shore of the Maravanthe beach and form a foamy white outline between the golden sand and the deep blue waters; and as you look to the other side, the Kodachadri Hills make a beautiful backdrop for the Sauparnika River that reaches out to the shore of the beach. Each and every person visiting the Maravanthe beach must witness the sunset. It is surely one of the most beautiful moments to be captured in your memories.

This beautiful beach is frequently and especially visited during the time of sunset. A panoramic and unobstructed view of the orange ball of fire steadily preparing to dip itself into the welcoming waters is undoubtedly satisfying. On its way into the waters, the sun changes colours and the skies try to keep up! Warm hues of orange, pink and red take over the sky and hypnotize the onlooker with its glorious beauty.
Watching the birds fly through these colour changing skies throws one back into the childhood sceneries we all drew. The big ball of flames disappears behind the horizon, a calm white one rises to power and brings with itself a million tiny and incessantly twinkling shiny dots that cover the entire night sky. A view of the Maravanthe Beach during the sunset is truly mesmerizing and feels like a scene right out of a movie.
You may think that gazing at the swaying palm trees under the clear sky alongside the deep blue waters is vacation enough, but wait, Maravanthe Beach has more!
Swimming: The water at the Maravanthe beach is a very gentle and welcomes you in. The temperature of the water is in the Goldilocks' zone- not too hot, not too cold, just right. You can enjoy a perfectly healthy and revitalizing swim in these waters.
Scuba diving and Snorkeling: Looking at the water? Too mainstream. You can now look under the water! Explore the life underwater- the schools of fishes and the coral reefs. The marine life of this beach will astound you with its beauty and will make you want never to come up.
Boat Cruise on the Sauparnika River: A relaxing boat cruise in the Sauparnika River is a perfect way to relieve your stresses behind. You can also take a dip in the river during the cruise. There are many temples along the shore of the river, and the boat cruise will take you to these spots too.
Belekal Theertha Falls: Another popular tourist attraction by the Maravanthe is the majestic Belekal Theertha Falls. This waterfall also goes by the name of "Govinda Theertha" and is surrounded by Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary. The dense forest envelopes the water that plummets from a great height, creating a luxuriant and naturally beautiful scene for the onlooker. Theertha means sacred in Sanskrit, and a dip in the pool of this waterfall is said to cleanse your mind and soul of all negativity.
Shopping: Most tourists buy pretty and colourful conch shells and collectables made from conch shells. These are a speciality of this region and are an absolute favourite of the visitors at the beach.
The nearest airport is the Mangalore Airport which is at a distance of 110 km. One can book a cab from there. A taxi too can be taken from the railway station in Kundapur which is 18 km away. The Maravanthe beach is also very well connected by road to all the major cities.
The best time to visit Maravanthe Beach is between September and March. During the monsoon, the waters of the Arabian Sea and the Sauparnika River almost merge rendering the road almost inaccessible. As a result, the beach is most enjoyable post monsoon when the waters are stable and perfect for swimming and other water sports. The sun won't be too hard, and the weather will also be very amicable.
Kundapur Railway Station is nearest to the Maravanthe Beach at a distance of 20 km which is only 30 minutes by road. This railhead, however, is not a very busy one. A busier and easily accessible one is the Mangalore Railway Station which is only 110 km away, a 2-hour drive. Trains run in and out of both of these railway stations quite frequently, almost every day.
Luxurious AC buses and regular buses ply through the Kundpura-Udipi-Mangalore route (NH-17) almost every minute. You can also hail a cab or auto from the city to the beach very easily and for a pocket-friendly cost too.
