The building was designed by architect Alfred Waterhouse and it was completed in 1877. There are many huge ceremonial rooms such as the Great Hall. The Great Hall is decorated with Ford Maddox Brown's imposing Manchester Murals. There are statues of Dalton, Barbirolli and Joule in the entrance and the structure hall.
