Sri Vittal Rukmini Samsthan, Kumbakonam Overview

Constructed in Govindapuram on the Kumbakonam- Aduthurai highway, Sri Vittal Rukmini Samsthan is (formerly known as Sri Panduranga Bhajanashram) is a massive temple located on the highway amidst rural atmosphere. Established in 1998 by Brahmashri Vittaldas Jayakrishna Deekshithar, the shrine resonates with peace and tranquility. Built on a slightly elevated platform, the interior walls of the shrine have been painted with stories of Sri Krishna, Sant Tukaram, Marathi poets and saints etc. Enshrines by Sri Krishna and Goddess Rukmini, the chief objective of the temple is to spread Bhakti cult through Namasankeerthanam (which is the easiest way to attain moksha in the age of Kali).

Sri Vittal Rukmini Samsthan also aims at creating a colossal Maharashtrian Hemandapanthi style temple for Sri Pandurangan and Rukmini Devi which is supposed to be the largest and the tallest temple dedicated to Sri Krishna and Goddess Rukmini in the entire world. Flanked with massive guard statues, the temple premises also house a huge gaushala which tends to more than a 100 cows. The gigantic central hall can accommodate up to 2000 people. Equipped with all modern technologies, the only monetary source of the temple is donations, which is also acceptable through card payments.

Architecture of Sri Vittal Rukmini Samsthan

Boasting of a fusion Maharashtrian and South-Indian style architecture, the massive temple has an 18 feet long kalash to adorn the roof of the shrine. There is also a colossal gopuram which is 132 feet tall and has nine levels, supposedly the tallest in the world. The temple also has a garbhagriha, Maha Mandapam and Ardha Mandapam. Vasantha Mandapam is a pillar-less massive hall which can accommodate up to 2000 people, which is used for Namasankeerthanam, Bhajans, and Upanyasams. The ceiling and the roof has been done in beautiful fibre class printing. The premises also house 16 large size statues of Lord Krishna in various leela postures (divine actions). The temple also has a little pond for the devotees to take bath in.

1. The visitors and the pilgrims are necessarily required to do Nama Japam for a few minutes inside the temple at a particular allotted space before proceeding to have darshan of Lord Krishna and Goddess Rukmini.

How To Reach Sri Vittal Rukmini Samsthan

Sri Vittal Rukmini Samsthan is located 10 kms from Kumbakonam in Govindapuram on the Kumbakonam - Aduthurai highway. The roads are well-connected through public bus routes. State buses numbered 1, 17, 27, 33, 46, 54 and 64 from Kumbakonam bus stop to Aduthurai ply on the route. You can get down at Govindapuram; the temple is right on the highway.
