Sungai Lembing, Kuantan Overview

Known for its rich mining history, Sungai Lembing is a town situated 42 kilometers northwest of Kuantan district in Pahang. Being a major producer of underground tin until the 1860s, the town has several attractions that speak of its history including the biggest underground mine in the world!

In Malay, 'Sungai' means river and 'Lembing' means spear. To explore the inner village, renting an ATV or a bicycle would be a fun activity. Crossing the suspension bridges in Sungai Lembing (preferably the oldest one) is also quite an experience.

There are not many fancy shopping malls or high-end hotels here. However, Sungai Lembing promises some very exciting tourist spots set amidst nature like the Mount Tapis Nature Park and the very popular Sungai Pandan Waterfall.

How to Reach Sungai Lembing

Take the Rapid Kuantan bus service from Kuantan running every 30 minutes. The journey will cost around RM 2 - RM 4 and it will take about an hour to reach there.

Sungai Lembing Attractions

Rainbow Waterfall
Rainbow Waterfall is a dreamy spray-like falls offering a lovely view of a rainbow in the morning hours. The water flows at a very low speed and the sunlight hitting waterfall leads to the formation of the rainbow. It is visible usually between 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM in the morning. 

Ghau Charas
Ghau Charas is a temple cave situated in a 400 million year old limestone hill. Ghau Charas actually comprises of 8 separate caves. One of them named the Dark Cave houses the Reclining Buddha Statue. There are many other Hindu and Buddhist idols and statues since the cave serves as a holy place for both the religions. There's also this 8 feet Jala Linggerswarar (Shiva Lingam) in  Shivalingam Hindu Temple inside the deep and dark cave. 

Muzium Sungai Lembing
Muzium Sungai Lembing is a museum that throws light on the illustrious tin mining era of Sungai Lembing. Overlooking the Kenai River, the colonial architectural building houses more than 100 tin-related mining equipment.
Muzium Sungai Lembing is open daily from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM. The ticket is priced at RM 5 and RM 2 for Non-Malaysian adults and children respectively.

Mount Tapis Nature Park
Mount Tapis Nature Park promises an adventurous visit here with its jungle treks, camping sites and hot springs. The rivers here are perfect for fishing. Fishing enthusiasts will find it quite fascinating to fish Ikan Kelah. Jungle trekking is nothing less than an adventure here and do bring along a pair of sports shoes. 

Sungai Lembing Tin Mine
Sungai Lembing Tin Mine is the biggest underground tin mine in the world measuring as long as 322 kilometers. The tour through the mines will give you a chance to experience the vibe of the era when tin-mining was in full swing in Sungai Lembing. Starting off with a ride on a tram, similar to the ones used by miners, the tour involves exploring the mines by foot after the ride. 

Deerland Park
Deerland Park is a privately owned deer park housing over 30 Indonesian Deer, rabbits, peacocks, ostriches, Bengal cats and a Burmese python. The park is a good place to visit with kids.
Deerland Park is open daily from 10:30 AM - 5:30 PM.
The ticket costs RM 5 for adults and RM3 for children under 12 years of age.

Crystal House
Crystal House displays a collection of over 3000 crystalline stone pieces. Interestingly, these pieces have been collected by an ex tine miner, Mr Lee Yon, of Sg. Lembing Tin Mine from a quarry and Panching over a period of 19 years.
It is open daily from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM.
The ticket is priced at RM 2 for adults and RM 1 for children.

Sungai Pandan Waterfall
Being tagged as the largest multi-tiered waterfall in Peninsular Malaysia, Sungai Pandan Waterfall is located in Hutan Lipur Sungai Pandan (Forest Reservation Area). It is considered as the most beautiful falls in Malaysia. The suspension bridge over the natural pool offers amazing views of the falls cascading down the rocks. You can even go for a refreshing swim or enjoy your time at the  campsite.

Bukit Panorama
Offering spectacular views of Sungai Lembing Village and the distant hills, Bukit Panorama makes for a hill worth climbing! Around 1100 steps on a cemented staircases and hand railings in between and you're on top of the 271 meters high Panorama Hill with the gorgeous view of a blanket of clouds shielding the town. It will take around 15-60 minutes depending on your stamina to climb the hill. 

Berkelah Falls
Berkelah Falls is a magnificent 7-tiered waterfall perfect for a fun day out. While it's advised to be extra careful on the hike to the upper falls, those wishing to have an extra pinch of adventure can always try getting to all the tiers, swim at all the base pools and conquering the falls with a picture at each tier. The water is quite cold and the current can get really strong.
