Koh Trong, Kratie Overview

Koh Trong is an island in the Mekong river located close to Kratie in Cambodia inhabiting about 500 families. It is a quiet island known as the 'Market Garden' due to various local fruits growing here. The island is popular among the tourists visiting Kratie for its authentic Cambodian rural life experience amidst green rice fields. You can either visit Koh Trong as a day trip from Kratie or stay overnight.

Koh Trong Tours

There are group and private tours to Koh Trong island from Kratie. You can explore on your own as well. You will come across traditional wooden houses encountering cattle, rice fields and friendly locals engaged in farming and fishing. There is a small Vietnamese floating village consisting of about 50 homes built on stilts. An ancient pagoda is another popular stop. When the water levels are not high, you can go swimming in the river and also might encounter wild turtles.

There is a long stretch of road to explore the island on your own by rented bicycles or motorbikes. There are no cars allowed here. If you want a traditional experience, you can explore Koh Trong on a horse cart or a cow cart too. If you're going to witness the sunset, then plan your time to be able to get back to Kratie by the last ferry.

The best time to visit is in the early morning to spend more time or the late afternoon when the weather is pleasant.

How To Reach Koh Trong

You can easily reach Koh Trong from Kratie by ferry which leaves from The Jasmine Boat restaurant all day, every day, until 6:30 PM. So plan your trip accordingly if you intend to get back to Kratie for overnight stay. It costs 1 USD per ride, and about 2 USD if you are carrying a bicycle as well. But it's recommended not to go with bicycles as you can rent them at Koh Trong for about 1 USD per day to explore the island. You can also get around Koh Trong on a Motodop for about 3 USD.
