Thong Pha Phum National Park, Kanchanaburi Overview

Thong Pha Phum National Park is part of the Western Forest Complex protected area. Spreading over 1,236 sq. km. along the Myanmar border, the park’s main attractions are limestone caves, tin mines, and waterfalls. Fauna includes Asiatic elephants, tigers, water buffaloes, etc.

Thong Pha Phum National Park is one of the least-explored national parks of the 150+ that Thailand has to offer. While most of the park is inaccessible, its untarnished natural beauty is its main draw, along with several waterfalls and exciting mountain hiking trails. The waterfalls worth visiting in the park are the 100 ft deep Chok Kradin, the three-tiered Khao Yai, Dip Yai, Bi Teng, and Huai Meuang. At Khao Noi caves, you will find medieval Buddha images still preserved.

Trekking at Thong Pha Phum National Park

An 8 km trail leads to the park’s highest peak, Khao Chang Phueak, which offers a stellar 360-degree vista. The trek starts at E-Thong village, but registration is done at the visitor center. November through January is the best time. Other interesting trekking destinations in the park are Wat Wang Wiwekaram, Baan E Tong Village North Loop, Pilok Mine Loop, Singakalia Bridge Walk, Doi Tong Pala, Jokkadin Waterfall, Thong Pha Phum Loop, and Sangkhla Buri Big Buddha. On the premises of the park headquarters, there are rustic ‘Tarzan’ tree houses where you can spend the night and witness first-hand how a jungle comes alive at night.
