Kalpitiya is located in the north of Sri Lanka and is a collection of 14 islands. The group of islands is primarily known for its waterfronts and attracts a lot of crowd throughout the year. The peninsula was the significant spot for trading and smuggling of goods, even during the 17th century! It was a well-protected area during the tenure till which the city was under the grasp of the Portuguese, who exploited the region to smuggle in goods.

By Road
Because the distance from the Colombo airport to Kalpitiya beach is only 3 hours, a car ride is enough. You can ask your hotel to arrange a private car for you, or you could rent a car for the day from a car rental service, plenty of which are available from anywhere around the country.
There are also buses that run from the airport. However, you will be taken to Puttalam in 4 hours. From there, the beach is another 23 kilometres further. There are regular and AC buses that run throughout the day.
