Bitangad Trek, Igatpuri Overview

Bitangad is a hill fort in Maharashtra. One of the many such forts in the district of Nasik, it rises to an elevation of about 3500 feet from the ground.

The summit of the hill is very small and not much is left on it. There is a cave on the way up, and some cisterns of water at the top. The plateau at the top is covered with dense vegetation, and offers a very nice view of the peaks in the Kalsubai range.

More on Bitangad Trek

Since there are no freshwater sources in and around the fort, it is advisable to carry your own water supply with you.

Food is not available in the base village of Bitangwadi. Carry your food items along with you, as the trek takes some time.

1) The top of the fort is a popular overnight camp for the trekkers, as the view of the entire Sahyadri range is breathtaking at night. 2)

The caves in the fort are too small to accommodate any number of people. Shelter can be suitably arranged in the base village, or in the Hanuman temple in the village.

The trail to the top of the fort goes through steep rock-cut steps. You might want to use a rope to make your climb easier. There is a cave at the end of the flight of stairs. From this point we need to walk in a straight line to reach the top of the fort.

  • Rail: Igatpuri junction is a major railway station in the district of Maharashtra. It is well connected with Pune and Mumbai through a host of local trains, which ply at regular intervals to this place.

  • Road: The base village of Bitanwadi can be reached via Ghoti on NH 3, about 50 kilometres east of Igatpuri. Buses are available from Igatpuri to the base village via Taked Phata and the village of Ekdara.
