Buchanan Street, Glasgow Overview

Buchanan Street is one of the main shopping streets in Glasgow that runs across the middle of a renowned shopping district of Glasgow. It embraces several cultural highlights, restaurants, and a diverse range of more upscale shops.

It is more lively than its neighboring Argyle Street and Sauchiehall Street. The street's name Buchanan is inspired from the name of a well-to-do Tobacco Lord, plantation owner, and former Lord Provost of Glasgow -  Andrew Buchanan, who is also a partner in both Buchanan and Hastie & Co. There are many shops nestled on this thoroughfare, along with two notable shopping centers, two arcades, a library, a museum, and a design center. Being a pedestrianized street, it observes numerous visitors and is known for Buchanan Galleries, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Princes Square, Argyll Arcade, & House of Fraser. The street is famous for its variety of high-end flagship stores, including Ernest Jones, Goldsmiths, John Lewis, H&M, Hollister, Thomas Sabo, & more. Notably, Buchanan Street is the second busiest shopping street, after London's Oxford Street. Also, it is the sixth most expensive street in the UK for retail rent.
