The Durshet Forest Lodge is set amid 35 acres of private teak forest, against the magnificent Sahyadhri Range. The River Amba presents a sanctuary for trekkers and birdwatchers. The gardens and lawns in the place magically come alive with a natural waterfall during the monsoon season. Go rafting on the River Kundalika, or scout the Umbarkhind battlefield or go mountain biking in this place as the options are unlimited.
The months of February to March and from September to December are the ideal months to visit this place. During the monsoon time, you can witness the natural waterfall that magically appears in the place. The weather is very pleasant and mostly cool in this area during these times of the year.
Air: Chhatrapati International Airport is the nearest airport to Mumbai. It is around 105 km from Durshet. Taxis and cabs are available here. You can travel to Durshet via them.
Rail: Durshet does not have a railway station, and the nearest station is Mumbai, at a distance of 35 kms from Durshet.
Road: The Mumbai-Pune Expressway connects Mumbai to Durshet. The best way for travelling between Mumbai and Durshet is by car. Public transport buses also connect Durshet with nearby cities.
Cabs and taxis are available to get around Durshet.
Cottage rooms, dormitories and campers tents are available to stay at this place.
The well-known Pali and Mahad Ashta Vinayak Ganapati Temples, the majestic and mysterious Thanala Rock Cut Caves, the hot water springs, the historic battlefield of Umbarkhind where Shivaji won victory over the huge imperial army led by the general Kartalab khan are some of the sight-seeing spots near the Durshet Lodge.
Bird Watching, Rappelling, Rock Climbing, Kayaking, Night walks in the forest, Barbecues and campfires are some of the popular activities of this resort.
Not really many places to shop are here. There maybe a few gift shops around the place but it is not a shopping spot as such.
The culture of Durshet is quite interesting. It showcases the lifestyle of the people of the place. The festivals, the events, the attractions very nicely reflect the culture of Durshet. Tourism has picked up in the last few years here and the local people are very friendly towards the tourists.
Mumbai and Pune are cities close to the lodge. And the infamous nightlife of both these cities is spectacular. At the forest lodge, you can enjoy a good campfire and barbeque dinner .
Traditional Maharashtrian Cuisine is the local cuisine if the place. You can find it at any of the popular restaurants.
Rama Krishna, Duchess Restaurant, Sunny da Dhaba are some of the popular restaurants which are about 10-20 km from the lodge.
Check in at the resort around 11am. Have a meal at the breakfast service of the place. Go for some adventurous activities such as rock climbing, rappelling, etc. You can enjoy bird watching and sightseeing at this place. At night enjoy the barbeque and campfires. Check out the next morning and visit some nearby attractions such a Mahableshwar, Koyna Nagar Wildlife Sanctuary, Vasota Fort etc.
The weather is cold so it is best to carry warm clothes. Do not carry alcohol with you inside the resort as it is prohibited.
