Deeg Fort

Deeg Fort, Deeg Overview

With Roop Sagar flowing on one side and this huge, magnificent fort on the elevated coast, Deeg fort is the most favourite of tourists. Built in 1772, this fort was constructed strategically here due to the proximity with Agra.

In 1730, Raja Suraj Mal ordered the construction of a fortress around the palace, it was then that the massive walls were raised and the deep moat was conceptualized to keep the invaders away. The fort seems hugely influenced by the concept and design of the Mughal Charbagh, it has a similar design, with the lawns located in four corners and a walkway in the centre. While the fort has Roop Sagar on one side, on the other side is Gobind Sagar, both of them together help bring down the temperature of the fort. On the roof is a cannon which is an ancient one, which must have been used in warfare during the rule of the Jaat dynasty. To the north west corner in the fort is Lakka Burj which is a 70ft tall watch tower, climb it up and see the town at glance, a mesmerizing sight, totally!
