Catedral Metropolitana

Catedral Metropolitana, Brasilia Overview

Brasilia's most famous attraction, Catedral Metropolitana is a unique circular Catholic church.

Inaugurated in 1970 and designed by the chief architect Oscar Niemeyer himself, the Metropolitan Cathedral is no less than an architectural spectacle. Certainly, the most modernistic church to be built on the planet, this massive hyperboloidol concrete structure is supported by 16 curved columns giving an impression to the building as that of a crown. At the entrance, one can find four large bronze statues representing the four Evangelists. Once inside, the interplay of light and beauty of the stained glass work leaves its visitors amazed. More than a million people visit this place, making it a must visit attraction on every traveller's list.
